Skepton Construction brings the outdoors in to Tighe Orthodontics

Patients of Allentown’s Tighe Orthodontics have another reason to smile, thanks to the expertise and innovative work of Skepton Construction. As General Contractor, Skepton took on the ambitious project of relocating the Tighe Orthodontics office from its previous location to a new one that Skepton completely renovated—and all prior to the start of Dr. Tighe’s next busy season.

By The Numbers: Project Specs

  • Work on Tighe Orthodontics started in May 2016, and was completed on schedule in September 2016.
  • Skepton renovated the interior and exterior of the new location, an ~5,600 sq./ft. one story office building that was divided into an ~3,700 sq./ft. orthodontic office and an ~1,900 sq./ft. rental space earmarked for development into a yoga studio.

The new location for Tighe Orthodontics in Allentown underwent an exterior and interior renovation thanks to the expertise of Skepton Construction.

A Collaborative Effort

Skepton Construction collaborated with KCBA Architects in Hatfield, PA for the design and renovation of the space. This was a true design build project that included the building’s owner, Dr. Philip Tighe, who was highly involved in the design of both the interior and exterior of his new office.

Dr. Tighe wanted his love of the outdoors to shine through in the design of his new office. Rough sawn cherry plank walls, multi-colored carpet tiles, wide plank wood simulated vinyl floors, and a mosaic stone pebbled floor designed to simulate a dry river bed running from the reception desk to the operatory room all work in unison to create a soothing and natural feel in the office.

The exterior was also constructed with careful use of natural materials as Skepton installed rainscreen systems made of arapa wood and cement board.

Dr. Tighe’s love of the outdoors translated into a renovation of his new office space that included natural elements like rough sawn cherry plank walls.

Bringing the Outdoors In

Care was taken in every aspect of the renovation to bring the outdoors inside, giving the office a fun and relaxing feel for patients of all ages.

This new orthodontics office is located directly across the street from a large amusement park—a prime location for Dr. Tighe’s clientele, as he caters especially to children and young adults. Skepton Construction worked to widen the view of the amusement park by enlarging all exam room windows, and converting the entire exterior wall of the operatory room into a full glass curtain wall. Patients now enjoy an unobstructed view of the park and a beautifully landscaped area featuring standing bird feeders and a variety of trees.

Built for Kids of All Ages

It was important to Dr. Tighe that his office be a welcoming and relaxing place for his patients—many of whom are children—and their parents.

Skepton Construction built a large playhouse in the waiting room so young patients can play as they wait for their appointments. Kids can also hang out in the brand new game room, complete with vintage pinball machines and video games. An adult waiting room offers a computer area and coffee bar serving up the finest Starbucks coffee.

Skepton Construction widened the windows in each exam room, affording patients a wider view of the outdoors, and incorporated a natural look into the interior design with wide plank wood simulated vinyl floors.

Thanks to the collaboration between Skepton Construction, KCBA Architects, and building owner Dr. Tighe, patients will enjoy the natural elements, enhanced view of the outdoors, and relaxing, kid-friendly environment of Tighe Orthodontics for years to come.
